Classic Southern Sweet Potato Casserole
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Prepare the Sweet Potato Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, melted butter, granulated sugar, beaten eggs, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and ground cinnamon (if using). Mix until smooth and well combined.
Assemble the Casserole: Pour the sweet potato mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Make the Topping: In a separate bowl, combine the chopped pecans, melted butter, brown sugar, flour, shredded coconut (if using), and ground cinnamon. Mix until crumbly.
Add the Topping: Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture in the baking dish.
Bake the Casserole: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is set.
